Experimental Connectivity Analysis for Drones in Greenhouses

This study aims to explore the communication capabilities for video crucial applications of two commercial drones—the Parrot AR.Drone 2.0 and Anafi—in a greenhouse environment. Experiments were conducted on Received Signal Strength (RSS), Round-Trip Time (RTT) throughput 802.11n at 2.4 GHz network. From experiments, it was found that none UAVs have an isotropic radiation pattern. Indoor measurements close roof ground more prone signal degradation. Even though RTT Anafi higher than 2.0, in almost all cases managed achieve lower path loss, proving its superiority application. In addition, maximum distance could fly without any quality loss 110 m, while hardly able reach 30 m. Finally, effect propellers has insignificant impact UAV connection characteristics tested scenarios.
